Food and Fashion, the perfect combo if you ask me. That's why I was absolutely thrilled to attend Day 1 of LA Fashion Week this year. There were three tiers of tickets one could purchase. General admission which started at $70, and $250 for the VIP ticket to have access to both the after party and dinner. The event was held at the Petersen Automotive Museum, you're probably more familiar with it if I say 'that big red and silver building on Wilshire Blvd.' Oh, they also hold some of the rarest and most valuable cars in the world, no biggs.
Valentine's Day can be quite a daunting day, whether you are in a relationship or not. Those who don't have a Valentine might feel the pressure of not having one, and those that do, feel the pressure of having to create a special experience for their loved one. Whichever boat you fall in this year, take the time to do make the most of the day...because, why not?! I love to stop and appreciate the holidays because when I don't it feels like the year just flies by and I didn’t make the most of it.
I paid a very special visit to The Treehouse, Bel Air, I feel as though since returning from China with new ah-ha moments, coupled with finding out I have high blood sugar, is pushing me towards a transitioning in my life. And I feel it is more than just a coincidence that this visit to The Treehouse was set up when it was.
I am soo sad I was not able to attend the LA Mag Food Event in person. I ended up doing a very impromptu trip to China. I was really looking forward to it. Instead, I sent my husband and the official FOODECALL representative. The risk in doing that is that he actually drinks all the wine, which could mean you’ll end up with the best…or the worst pictures, depending on how you look at it. Just scroll and you’ll see what I’m talking about. In the meantime, I’m just gonna home that I get to go next year because it looked like so much fun!
I recently had the pleasure of venturing out all the way to Newport Beach just to attend the Newport Beach Festival. The Pacific Sales Newport Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by Jaguar Land Rover, one of Southern California’s most intimate and highly-acclaimed food and wine events, wrapped its fifth annual extravaganza on Sunday, October 7, 2018. The four-day epicurean event drew over 6,000 guests who enjoyed tastings from over 40 of Southern California’s best restaurants and more than 250 varieties of wine, as well as access to their favorite celebrity chefs. This year’s festival attracted top talent from the culinary world, including Michelin-starred chef Michael Mina, Food Network and Bravo stars Duff Goldman, Richard Blais, and Jet Tila, as well as contestants from Bravo’s Top Chef television series.
CHEAT DAY LAND (CDL) pop-up museum is a celebration of the foods we all dream about and all deserve after a hard week’s workout. The interactive experience officially opened on October 1st and received overwhelming response from the public and the media, selling out several weekends in row. A Red Carpet Preview Party was held on Sept. 28 and attended by over 350 VIP guests.
I went to San Diego a few weekends ago for the Latitude (Latins with attitude) conference and had the ultimate pleasure of dining at the ONLY happening spot in downtown San Diego, and probably the rest of San Diego…Cloak and Petal.
An Evening With The Mayor is an annual event hosted by the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce. Held at the iconic Greystone Mansion, it was definitely an evening of elegance that one often only gets to experience in a movie.
We were first picked up by Starline Tours, the official shuttle service of the evening. Then greeted by two luxury vehicles provided by O’Gara. Upon entry, you come across the first photo opportunity of the evening, on the staircase overlooking the entire terrace. However, it’s the soft melody from a harp that invites you in. The live music was provided by Kirschner Creative Artists’ Sasha Boldachev.
I had the honor of attending the Evening On The Beach event held at Jonathan’s Club on September 13th. Shoes were optional, and for good reason. The event was literally on the sand. This was THE party of the summer, with top tier food, drinks, and music. It was an incredibly beautiful day, no jacket necessary, and I had a field day going around and trying all the delicious food. With beer, wine and rosè on tap, how could you go wrong?
The hubby and I spent a day in Laguna Beach at The Montage Hotel. We sometimes go there when we want to feel extra fancy. The views there are unlike any other. But today’s post is about a restaurant that we found in the area after we left the Montage. I had to yelp this one, and it had to have vegetarian options because my mother-in-law is vegetarian.
I used to live in Calabasas, right on the cusp of Woodland Hills, and back in the day there really weren’t many dining options for its residents. In fact, the entire Blvd. in that part of the valley was really sparse in restaurants and bars. However, in the past few years, I’ve definitely noticed an uptick in openings and I bet its exciting for the residents because leaving that part of town to drive…well anywhere really, can be a mission. During the time I lived there, even driving to Studio City was like driving to a far off land, and downtown LA? Fogettaboutit.
I love checking out bars, from really fancy ones like the rooftop at the Waldorf, to the the diveyest of all places. I love how every bar has its own vibe, ambiance, specialties, etc. On this particular day, I visited The Craftsman Bar in Santa Monica. It is located on Broadway, and if you are not familiar with the area, I would say this in a decent central location, which also gets more brownie points because it happens to be right near the ocean as well. I imagine it is quite beautiful during the day time.
Wild and Free is...Rotisserie chicken with a bang! Their mission is to take rotisserie chicken and make it flavorful and fun. They have 4 different unique flavor profiles: Smokey, Wild, Savory, and Original. But being the phatty that I am, I went straight for the fried chicken because...fried chicken. Some things just don't need an explanation. I tried three sides that day, the cous cous, crispy potatoes (triple fried, garlic, parmesan, herbs), and the mac and cheese. Of course my favorite was the mac and cheese. As our second entrée, we did the Caribbean bowl. I liked it but the rosemary did overpower the whole dish. That didn't matter to me because I like the flavor of rosemary, but just a warning to those who don't care for rosemary. Check out all the pictures below and if you've ever been, let me know what is your favorite dish at Wild and Free!
This next place is what I recommend for a really romantic date night spot. They have the cutest outdoor patio equipped with charming tables, tea lights, and they were even showing a black and white movie in the background. It was the perfect setting! And, the food is actually really good too! The margherita pizza, the branzino, the burrata, the blood orange salad, tiramisu, and the bambolini were my favorite....so basically everything? I didn’t try the steak but if I had it would probably be on this list. Honestly you really can’t go wrong with anything.
The Sugar Factory! What can I say, this place was dope AF! I've seriously never been anywhere like it. They're known for their specialty shakes and oh-so-sugary cocktails. It says on the wall, it's the "most instagrammed restaurant" and I can see why. First of all, their drinks are absolutely wild!! Secondly, it has been visited by so many celebs...Kim and Kylie, JLo, Drake, you know, just some B-listers, no big deal.
The Crabby Crab is the only spot I can think of in the valley that offers a crustacean-centric menu like this one. The concept is fairly simple, first you pick your seafood. They offer a wide selection like 3 kinds of crab, lobster, shrimp, mussels, and crawfish.
Next, you pick how you want to Sauce 'Em. The three choices are as follows: garlic butter, lemon pepper, and "the crabby way" house cajun mix. We went with the crabby way and that is THE way to go. This one was spicy and garlicky as hell, but in a VERY GOOD WAY.
For authentic Greek food, you must try Jimmy's Kouzina. Brother and sister Andrew and Natalie, along with their mom Julie run this restaurant, named after their late father Jimmy. I almost teared up after hearing about their story. Their dedication to serve day in and day out, since they were children is quite remarkable.
Roku Sunset is like, THE place to get sushi in Hollywood. If you're looking for really swanky décor and ambiance with really good sushi, then check out Roku Sunset. There honestly wasn't anything we didn't like. They also have a teppanyaki room if you're into that.
Remember I said that thing about décor?
Commerson has a very large and airy space, with floor to ceiling windows, allowing for plenty of sun to come through. I had the pleasure of having brunch here and loved everything from the atmosphere, to drinks, and the food. The food was inventive and most importantly tasty. Presentation was on point. And everything we ordered was so Instagram Worthy. The next time you find yourself looking for a new brunch spot with all you can drink specialty mimosas, then check out Commerson.
I had, hands down, one of the most memorable experiences in a long time. What started out as a normal foodecall, turned into something wayyyyy more than I expected. This foodecall was at Sushi Bar, one of Chef Phillip Frankland Lee's restaurant within a restaurant.
Atomic Liquors is the oldest free standing bar in Vegas. Been around since the 40's. During the wartime, people used to come here to watch bombs go off. It was later bought out from the son of the original owners, and during remodeling, they located a secret safe. It ended up being full of receipts, no cash, but still he overall history is actually quite fascinating. It was frequented by celebs like the Rat Pack, Clint Eastwood, and Barbara Streisand who wanted to get away from all the attention from being on the strip.
When in Vegas, do as the Veygans do, they dine at really nice steakhouses. And what better way to do than then by going to my favorite hotel in Vegas, the Palazzo and eating at Morels Steakhouse.
But I do have to say, the real reason I came here, what excited me so much, was actually the cheese and mushroom soufflé. I love chocolate soufflé, and I think the only thing better than a chocolate soufflé is a cheese soufflé. This is a must order! But keep in mind they only serve it at certain times like brunch and/or lunch possibly so call ahead to be sure.
My husband and I decided to take a tip to Vegas since it's been a while since my last trip out here. However, I didn't really come here to drink, or party, my main purpose was to relax by the pool, but most importantly, TO EAT!!
No matter where I go or what I do, of course Persian food will always have a place in my heart. I say that Indian or Sri Lankan might be my top favorite cuisines, but that is only because it is new to me and I've had Persian food all my life. But if you took it away from me, I would miss it like crazy. It's only that its so prevalent in my life that I sometimes take it for granted.
Pink's is surely among the most popular hot dog joints in America and a true legend since 1939. I visited Pink's on behalf of the FoodBall Network to try their polish sausages for a segment we call FoodBall: Street Edition. In this segment, we explore the food of a nation that will be in the world cup, in this case it was Poland.
